You tell your daughter that you prefer that she marry someone of her own class. However you allow for the possibility that she will marry the apothecary anyway so you try to surreptitiously help him by throwing business his way. Unfortunately he is too honest to take advantage of the opportunities you create for him.

Your daughter marries him anyway. The marriage is a disaster; your daughter is spoiled and is unhappy about living in poverty. She wants to come home but honor insists that she remain with her husband. They are too proud to take charity from you but you do what you can for your grandchildren. It is a lesson to you about the misfortunes that occur when people over-ride traditional wisdom.
