You call upon your father to find a young officer for you. He has many friends in the general staff whom he consults. Between them they come up with a young officer who is handsome and clever, albeit not of high family. All who know him think he will someday be a great general.

The two of you marry; you find being a soldier's wife to be to your taste even though you move a lot. One day he comes to you asking your advice. In his next post he can either take a staff position in Imperial HQ, or he can take a command post in the outer provinces. Taking the staff position would mean that you could live in the city; life would be easier. He would be near the center of power; however he might be able to capitalize on his nearness. Going to the outer provinces would not be easy for you, even though you are prepared to sacrifice much for your husband. He might be able to advance quickly, though. There are few able officers on the frontier; it is where the incompetents tend to be sent. He would shine by comparison and would be given high command quickly. What is your advice?
