Your husband takes a post in the outer provinces. He quickly becomes commandant of one the frontier provinces. Unlike many generals who make their headquarters in a large interior city, he makes his headquarters just outside a small city near the frontier.

Life is not as comfortable as it might be, but you make do. You worry about schooling for your children, particularly your eldest daughter. She is growing up very fast and is quite the army brat. You decide that she must go away to a finishing school where she can learn to be a lady. Do you consult with her or do you just send her off without telling her about it in advance? If you consult with her she will argue with you at length, and she might do something crazy like running away. Not giving her a chance to make her wishes known would be unfair, but it might be the course of wisdom. What will you do?
