You are happy with your childhood playmate. He moves to your father's estate where he takes over the duties of being your father's agent. When your father passes on to his next life your husband will be managing the estate.

Several years pass. You bear several children. You find happiness in being a mother and wife. You also find happiness in doing good works and sponsoring temples and charities. And then tragedy strikes. Your husband's father and his elder brother are killed in a freak accident. He is the heir to the title and the estate.

The problem is that Emperors distrust subjects who are too powerful, who have vast estates and great wealth. There is always the danger that a powerful noble might overthrow a weak Emperor. You and your husband fear that the union of your two great estates will bring persecution by the Empire. On the other hand that union will make your family a great power in the Empire.

Should your husband play it safe by renouncing his claim on his father's title or should he take the chance that problems with the Empire could be handled?
