Aha! So you noticed.
The “Hockey Stick” navigation bar changes color, randomly, at each page change or reload. The highlight color for the links and the “breadcrumb trail” also change; the breadcrumbs to match the navigation area and the highlights to contrast with it.
I came up with the method (involving object-oriented Javascript) for a client who ended up using it only for its opening Flash animation.
The code is purely client-side; no server load or pages embedded in frames are required.
