The Vent Story

Up on the roof, AC just needed a clean out. All of the vents were stuffed with fiberglass insulation. Got that out OK.

Inside, yellowed plastic. Is this good because it is original or is it just plain yucky ?

And under that, the lights. The screen has been removed.

However, the threaded shaft that lifts the vent is frozen. I applied everything I could think of, except heat,
and eventually I over torqued it and broke it. At this point a Fantastic Fan seemed like a good idea.

So out it comes. The rivets holding it on were cut with a sharpened putty knife slid under the edge and hammered on.

Since the hole had curved corners, I laid the foam gasket over the hole for a template. Both the inner and the outer skins needed to be cut. (Don't cut the wires, Daisy)

Here it is, note the piece of aluminum riveted on the top.

Under that are two layers of plastic, for an air pocket. Replace with clear Lexan for more light?

Here is the Fantastic Fan set in place.

Next I attached the wires, and tested it. Whoopee ! it runs!

LOTS of Vulkem.

Cleaned up with paint thinner.

The inside trim fits great, special for curved roofs. It even matches the color.
Lots of light and lots of air circulation.
