Margaret Armstrong was one of the first professional book designers in the United States. Her work as an artist and writer spanned the years between 1890 and 1940. Her work represents the best of a glorious era in commercial book binding that offered employment to an emerging group of women artists. Her life experiences were influenced by her remarkable family and her own distinct artistic genius. Thematically and philosophically, her career places her squarely within the vibrant Arts and Crafts Movement in the United States. |
