[You hear the frantic slap of tentacles on struts, the skidding skitter of mandibles against the black marble floor, and the buzz of laser connectors as the various lifeforms rush to finish installing the latest additions to the humans' gallery. "No! Wait! I'm not part of the exhibit!" "Sssssohrreee." *THUD* of dropped protoplasm...]

A glowing translucent emerald sign with no visible support slowly rotates high above in the oxy-breathable air, proclaiming quietly in the 11 major galactic trade languages what is on each facet:

At the center of the Gallery, you see another sign, a tall gleaming gold cylinder a meter in diameter, with letters carved into it at different heights, all showing the same phrase. Moving closer, you notice the deep indentations ripple as they flow sideways from right to left continually around the curve of the sign. It says (in a low but audible voice) "Labors of Art, latest picture installed Jan 6th, 2003, 1 image total". You think to yourself that their translation program needs fine tuning, especially since the chinese characters aren't moving vertically, and most humans read left to right.

Ahead of you and to each side, you have trouble focusing your eyes. There appear to be ripples like air raising off a noontime desert, obscuring any view of the distance or even close by. There are clear spots scattered at random that seem to be entrances or windows of sorts since there are small signs with artists' names next to each one. As you walk from one to the next, noticing that they are closer to each other than they seem, each scene becomes larger and clearer until you start to pedipulate away from each portal. Then each one fades more quickly than you'd expect from the distance you've walked or slithered. Among the views through the portals are:
